A life changing plate?

The generation that I am a part of is, in general, very interested in a healthy lifestyle. They question the origin of what they are eating. They take a close look at the ingredient list of a product before buying it. They care about what they feed their body with. Nonetheless, sticking to a healthy diet can be very hard. I, myself, am not so much obsessed with food. I would definitely not label my eating pattern as unhealthy, but I do struggle sometimes with resisting a greasy (but delicious) meal. For this exact reason a calorie-absorbing plate is like music to my ears. Could this invention actually make our beloved junk food less bad?
What is it?
The Thai creative office BBDO Bangkok designed the AbsorbPlate. From just looking at it, it could be a normal plate. It has a pattern on it, that looks a lot like something your grandma personally embroidered. When you then take a closer look, this pattern consists of 500 little holes. Those holes make this plate set apart from others. They can absorb about 1,5 teaspoons of oil a meal. That is like 30 calories!
The plate goes by the slogan āHealthier food. Same taste.ā, but does this product really make a big difference? I seriously doubt it.
Why is it cool?
It is no surprise that the AbsorbPlate has its origin in Thailand, as this country was ranked second in Southeast Asia for containing the most people with obesity. I think it is great that big companies are recognizing this problem and coming up with solutions. I just donāt believe that this plate is worth the hype. This product sounds to good to be true and that is also the case. First of all, the holes can only absorb oil. Which means that they have no use when it comes to less greasy meals. Also, 30 calories are comparable to a slice of ham. Iām very sorry to say, but that one slice of ham wonāt make a big difference.
Due to developments like the increasing power of Google, the economic crisis and the information overdose on the internet, people are more and more looking for transparency. They are searching for the truth and try to avoid misleading information. The marketing of AbsorbPlate is misleading. The idea behind this product is impressive, but it wonāt change your life.
