That’s not a correct sentence. Do or don’t we need our phones? You need water and food to survive but more and more people also feel like they need their mobile devices. Iphone separation anxiety has become a real thing. According to a recent study at the University of Missouri (2014) 53% of the mobile phone users become anxious when they can’t find their phone, lose network connection or when their phone runs out of battery. Iphone separation anxiety or nomophia, which stands for no mobile phone phobia, has serious consequences such as an increased heart rate and blood pressure and it can even lower your cognitive skills. NoPhone has come up with the solution for all these addicts; the NoPhone Zero

What is it? The NoPhone Zero is the newest model in the NoPhone series. It’s basically a plastic rectangle that resembles the shape of a mobile phone but has not specifications at all. This way you can still hold a cold piece of plastic without feeling the need to connect all the time. Their former model, the NoPhone, included some additions like a mirror or fake buttons, but the Zero is as basic as it can get. The NoPhone Zero isn’t on the market yet, on kickstarter they have already raised enough money but it will not be funded until October 9th.

Why is it cool? Of course a plastic fake phone comes of as a weird idea at first. I personally don’t see myself walking around with this almost childish product but when you take a look at the results of studies about phone addiction it suddenly doesn’t seem as weird. NoPhone wants to stimulate people to disconnect with the online world and connect with the world around them.

With more and more technology available we easily forget about our own environment. We don’t have deep personal real life conversations anymore, we don’t really enjoy our meals because we are too busy capturing it and we don’t take enough time for ourselves when we are constantly keeping in touch with our online contacts. The NoPhone could give people a feeling of inner peace and could better their relations with others.

I would link the NoPhone Zero to the trend Togetherness&Inline because the fake phone enables people to be stuck in the online world all the time. It therefore forces them to participate more active in the real world. There will, probably, be more conversations and it will make people more aware of their surroundings. It can also contribute to their the mental side of health. When people have more social interaction they will be happier and therefore healthier!

What sources did I use?

Always wonder,

Simone
